In an effort to understand the roots, sources, influences, and biases of our favorite past-time and why today it is a very “white” activity, we have organized an Anti-racism study group. We have identified four basic goals of this group:
  • history/research;
  • seeking out BIPOC musicians;
  • Community engagement/events, and
  • hiring a consultant.

We have been using resources posted by Portland Intown Contra Dance, CDSS, and other information found in newspapers, websites and books.

Join us on Google Meet. Someone will let you in when you ask to join. Send a note to Rich Dempsey if you have technical difficulties.

We invite our greater community to join us in this endeavor. We have monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of the month. These will be video calls during the cold months so participation from the greater community in western New York would be welcome. If you prefer to be involved in a less personal way, we welcome help in the research area as there are lots of articles (some scholarly), books and internet resources to review.
