Join us for an exhilarating waltz and contra dance as we welcome back the pairing of Nancy Spero calling to the powerhouse musicians of the Lake Effect Trio.

🎶 Lively Fiddling and Picking – The driving tunes of Matt Sloboda and Catherine Sloboda will have you twirling across the dance floor. Sibling harmonies are so sweet!

🎶 Rhythmic Guitar – Chuck Abell’s rhythmic strumming of the guitar sets the pulse for a night of energetic movement.

All Dances Taught – Caller Nancy Spero is back by popular demand, bringing her fantastic repertoire of fun and engaging dances. Whether you’re a seasoned contra dancer or a newcomer, Nancy’s expert, easy-going calling ensures a night filled with joy and laughter.

Experience the magic of contra dancing, where all are welcome, and no partner or experience is necessary. Bring your friends, family, and fellow dance enthusiasts for a night of lively music, connection, and community.

  • Waltz session at 6:00 pm;
  • Introduction to contra dance at 7:10;
  • Contra 7:30 – 10:00 pm.

We have a sliding scale admission policy, with a target of $10. Pay more if you can, less if you can’t – come dance!

Nancy Spero

Ithaca caller Nancy Spero is especially welcome in Rochester.  In addition to being a fine contra dance caller, Nancy is particularly interested in the music and moves of traditional, old-time square dancing and she calls for square dances held several times a year in the greater Ithaca area.  On our stage, she is always smiling and moving to the music of the band.

For nearly seven years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Catherine Sloboda. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
