The Rose Room Blooms at 6:00 pm this week with a contra tips workshop led by Zak Spath, followed by a half-hour introduction to contra dancing at 7:00.
Starting at 7:30, our musicians, Chuck Abell, Catherine Sloboda, and Harry Aceto take the stage to power the evening of contra dancing, where all are welcome, and no partner or experience is necessary. All dances will be taught by Casey Carr. Bring your friends, family, and fellow dance enthusiasts for a night of lively music, connection, and community.
We have a sliding scale admission policy, with a target of $12. Pay more if you can, less if you can’t – come dance!

Bands
Catherine Sloboda
Catherine Sloboda (fiddle)
Catherine’s fiddling is energizing, sensitive, and creates music with that elusive quality of danceability. She also has long experience in playing for dancing; in the early ’90’s, Catherine was a member of the Sloboda family band, Glenrose, who played for many contra and family dances. She is a member of the ECD trio Bellamira and many other combinations of local dance musicians.
Lake Effect
Matt Sloboda (fiddle, mandolin, accordion, bouzuki), Chuck Abell (guitar), Catherine Sloboda (fiddle)
For nearly seven years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Catherine Sloboda. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
