Tim Ball and Liza Sommers play contra dance music that runs the gamut from old New England to modern groove. Both stellar fiddlers and multi-instrumentalists, their music is rich, varied, and so danceable. Nancy Spero from Ithaca will be calling from her vast repertoire of interesting dances.

Caller

Nancy Spero

Ithaca caller Nancy Spero is especially welcome in Rochester.  In addition to being a fine contra dance caller, Nancy is particularly interested in the music and moves of traditional, old-time square dancing and she calls for square dances held several times a year in the greater Ithaca area.  On our stage, she is always smiling and moving to the music of the band.

Tim Ball and Liza Sommers

Tim Ball, Liza Sommers

Tim Ball has been on the contra music scene for about 10 years, playing fiddle with TuneScape, Tempest, Arise and Go and many other bands.  He travels throughout the country making music and when home in Ithaca, teaches a couple dozen fiddle students.  In addition, Tim has taught for the past few years at the Kanack School Fiddle Camp.  It is there that he met Liza Sommers, a dynamic fiddler who is part of the band Ginger Majority.
