Join us for either of two free contra dances as part of the Rochester Fringe Festival. Both dances will take place at The Rose Room, 295 Gregory St.
- Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 pm, we offer a traditional contra dance with the Boston based trio, Here on the Hill, featuring twin fiddles backed by rhythmic guitar. All dances are taught and called by the nationally known caller, Alex Deis-Lauby. We begin the evening with a half-hour introduction to contra dance elements. The dance party starts at 7:30 and runs until 10:00.
- Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 pm, we offer a techno club contra dance with Rochester’s dynamic duo, Tryptech, offering soaring fiddle interacting with keys and synth. All dances are taught and called by Margaret Mathews, whose extensive calling experience guarantee a smooth and delightful melding of choregraphy to the music. We begin the evening with a half-hour introduction to contra dance elements. The dance party starts at 7:30 and runs until 10:00.
All are welcome! No partner necessary. Wear cool, comfortable clothing and non-marking shoes.
