Bev Bernbaum

We have enjoyed the fine work of Canadian caller, Bev Bernbaum, for many years. We’re delighted to welcome her back to Rochester.

Bev has travelled all over the world spreading the joy of contra dancing. She has embraced calling and dancing at Zoom-based events to stay connected with her beloved community during the pandemic. Get her calling resumé from the Toronto Country Dancers website.

Bev’s easy going style has also made her a popular choice with bands. She’s called with up and coming bands like Sister Haggis, Ostara and Gròóvåtrøñ, and also bands well known across North America like The Cosmic Otters, ReelPlay, and Drive Train. Whether it be New England style, Irish, Old Time, or Techno, Bev’s a master of them all.

Bev’s philosophy is to call dances that she loves to dance herself. She’s always on the lookout for interesting figures or formations to mix things up. Her clear voice, calm manner and straightforward teaching style make contra dancing a pleasure for both beginning and experienced dancers alike. She’s now calling English Country Dance too!

As a retired computer consultant, Bev *loves* this hobby of calling and dancing both English Country and contra.

Band

Calico is a trio of Eric Boodman, Casey Murray, and Jesse Ball.

Calico

Casey Murray (cello, guitar, banjo), Jesse Ball (guitar, mandolin), Eric Boodman (fiddle)

With its unique mix of driving cello, 12-string guitar, and a hell of a lot of foot percussion, Calico brings a fiery twist to the fiddle music of Québec and New England. Whether they’re playing archival crooked tunes or new compositions, Casey Murray, Jesse Ball, and Eric Boodman create a joyous sound all their own. They’re bound to make you want to get up and dance!
