Aspiring callers will gather in the Rose Room Bloom session at 6:00 pm this week to practice calling a dance. Please come to support them. The group is led by long time caller, Margaret Mathews. Following that, Bob Fabinski will orient new dancers to contra dance at 7:00.

The evening dance party starts at 7:30.  Katy Heine will call contras to the music of Lake Effect.

🎶 Lively Fiddling and Picking – The driving tunes of Matt Sloboda and Catherine Sloboda will have you twirling across the dance floor. Sibling harmonies are so sweet!

🎶 Rhythmic Guitar – Chuck Abell’s rhythmic strumming of the guitar sets the pulse for a night of energetic movement.

All Dances Taught – Katy Heine is a veteran caller from Ithaca. We adore her taste in dances that work with the music and keep you smiling. Whether you’re a seasoned contra dancer or a newcomer, Katy’s expert, expert, clear teaching ensures a night filled with joy and laughter.

Experience the magic of contra dancing, where all are welcome, and no partner or experience is necessary. Bring your friends, family, and fellow dance enthusiasts for a night of lively music, connection, and community. If you like, come early for an introduction to contra elements at 7:10.

We have a sliding scale admission policy, with a target of $10. Pay more if you can, less if you can’t – come dance!

For nearly five years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Eastman Jazz graduates Grace Frarey and frequent collaborator Jack Courtright. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique and soulful ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
