The Rose Room Blooms at 6:00 pm this week with a workshop to build on the basics of contra led by Zak Spath, followed at 7:00 with a half hour of basic introduction to contra dancing to get you moving on the floor.

Starting at 7:30, hot contra dance music with Abel/Sloboda/Aceto V1 Three experienced musicians, Chuck, Cat and Harry, will bring a lift to your step and joy to your heart. All are welcome at CDR dances, and no partner or experience is necessary. Bring your friends, family, and fellow dance enthusiasts for a night of lively music, connection, and community.

All dances are taught. An introduction to contra dancing is provided around 7:00. Please let us know when you arrive.

We have a sliding scale admission policy, with a target of $10. Pay more if you can, less if you can’t – come dance!

One of Rochester’s seasoned callers, Evan brings great timing from his experiences playing saxophone in marching bands. His lovely, clear, resonant voice carries well, and he is very attentive to the dancers.

For nearly seven years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Catherine Sloboda. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
