Join us at Temple Beth El with Ithacan Katy Heine calling to the music of Lake Effect Duo.

At Temple Beth El, park in the rear parking lot, off Hillside Ave. Enter through Door I.

Long time veterans of the Rochester’s contra dances, Lake Effect Duo is Chuck Abell on guitar and Matt Sloboda on fiddle.

Beginner workshop at 7pm. Dance from 7:30-10pm with two short (~5min) breaks.

To keep everyone healthy, we’ve adopted additional safety procedures. Essentially, everyone must be fully vaccinated for COVID and boosted, and wear a mask. Please bring your own water bottle. Please review our COVID protocol for more points. We share your frustration with these additional measures, but we would rather err on the side of caution than risk our dancers’ health.

Lake Effect

Matt Sloboda (fiddle), Chuck Abell (guitar)

For nearly five years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Eastman Jazz graduates Grace Frarey and frequent collaborator Jack Courtright. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique and soulful ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
