Celebrate the 2024 Solar Eclipse by dancing away the bad karma! David Smukler will call appropriate dances for the disappearance of the sun.  The exciting new band Bellamira will provide exceptional music.

Rochester is right in the middle of the band where the eclipse will be total. On the night before the eclipse, we’re having an eclipse-themed English country dance.  If you’re a dancer interested in the eclipse, come visit and dance with us on Sunday, and we will try to find a Rochester dancer who will put you up on Sunday night.

There is no pre-registration for this event.

David Smukler

I lead evenings of contras and squares, English country dances, family dances, school programs, and special events such as weddings, festivals, etc. I have also presented workshops on numerous dance related topics. My taste in dances is eclectic, and I tend to present a wide variety of dances when I call. My repertoire includes plenty of New England contras, as well as an assortment of squares, singing calls, mixers, old chestnuts and freshly minted dances. I have a special fondness for English country dances, and my English programs also blend old favorites with new gems.

Eileen Nicholson, Catherine Sloboda, and Jane Knoeck formed this trio of expert Western NY dance musicians in 2023 to play for English Country dances and soon after for contras as well. Each has exceptional musical skills coupled with years of experience playing for dancers.
