At the Rose Room this week, we begin with mostly waltzes at 6:00 to the music of the Lake Effect Trio and continue with contra dancing at 7:30.

🎶 Energetic Fiddling – The infectious tunes of Matt and Cat on the fiddle will have you twirling across the dance floor.

🎶 Rhythmic Guitar – Chuck’s rhythmic strumming of the guitar sets the pulse for a night of energetic movement.

Caller Nancy Spero: Nancy, hailing from Ithaca, brings her passion for dance and expert calling to our Rose Room. Whether you’re a seasoned contradancer or a newcomer, Nancy’s guidance will make for a night of laughter, connection, and joyful dancing.

We charge admission on a voluntary basis, and we suggest a contribution of $10 per dancer, and $5 for the early waltz session. Our expenses are more than we take in. Please feel free to contribute more.

We offer an easy introduction to contra dancing around 7:10. Please let us know when you come that you’d like to attend.

Caller

Nancy Spero

Ithaca caller Nancy Spero is especially welcome in Rochester.  In addition to being a fine contra dance caller, Nancy is particularly interested in the music and moves of traditional, old-time square dancing and she calls for square dances held several times a year in the greater Ithaca area.  On our stage, she is always smiling and moving to the music of the band.

Band

Lake Effect duo are Matt Sloboda on fiddle and Chuck Abell on guitar.

Lake Effect

Matt Sloboda (fiddle), Chuck Abell (guitar)

For nearly five years, Lake Effect has been honing its sound while playing for dances and concerts both locally and in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. Founded initially by Matt Sloboda and Chuck Abell, the band has grown to include Eastman Jazz graduates Grace Frarey and frequent collaborator Jack Courtright. With a shared vision that encompasses the best in folk, Celtic, swing, and World Music, the band has melded seamlessly into a unique and soulful ensemble which values both precision and musical variety.
